Where I post about my road trips, photo shoots, inspirations and tips. |
I decided that I did not have to leave the city to set out on a photography trip. I checked with Google Maps and headed off shortly after 6:00 am. My destination was Village at Griesbach which is an award winning urban village in the north end of the city. It is built on the site of a former Canadian Forces Base. Plans call for an extensive network of parks, trails and four stormwater lakes to provide recreational opportunities for residents. A central park provides views to the downtown, a community garden and a toboggan hill. When completed, the development will have 112 acres (44 hectares) of schools, parks and open spaces.

The Carstairs Heritage Center
It has been several years since I visited this great place and with the new Aga Kahn Garden I was really looking forward to seeing some great new stuff. There are several gardens to visit. The Kurimoto Japanese Garden, the Aga Kahn Muslim Garden, the Indigenous Garden and the Patrick Seymour Alpine Garden. There are 3 Indoor Showhouses and my favorite is the tropical one with the butterflies.
There is a new sign at the entrance, the facilities have been updated, the food has been upgraded and the paths have been widened and are smoother. I will be making blog entries for these interesting places. I was able to take a trip to Drumheller to do some photography work so while I was on the road I decided to take in some of the sighs along the way. I have been there many times but it is a most special place. I always look forward to going south on Highway 56 and coming over the crest of the valley into Drumheller. It feels like an alien world. The valley was greener and wetter (relatively speaking) than my other visits.
The presentation of the exhibits has been updated since my last visit. There are more interactive stations to keep children engaged. Thank goodness it is a huge place as there were many visitors that day. I always enjoy the museum.
