Framed at 13.25x17.25 inches in a matte black wood shadow box frame with plexiglass
Single matted with white Print at 8x10 Title - Sunburst This photograph was taken on a summer morning walk in the river valley. I got up really early so that I would be at the river when the sun rose. This was captured as the sun burst over the horizon. It puts the old Rossdale Water Treatment Plant and the Walterdale Bridge in silhouette. These are both iconic structures in our river valley. It was a great photo shoot in the river valley.

I decided that I did not have to leave the city to set out on a photography trip. I checked with Google Maps and headed off shortly after 6:00 am. My destination was Village at Griesbach which is an award winning urban village in the north end of the city. It is built on the site of a former Canadian Forces Base. Plans call for an extensive network of parks, trails and four stormwater lakes to provide recreational opportunities for residents. A central park provides views to the downtown, a community garden and a toboggan hill. When completed, the development will have 112 acres (44 hectares) of schools, parks and open spaces.
I love the metal elements I found in the garden. The knobs in the photo on the left are on the very large doors at the entrance of the garden. There are six on each door. A very simple and elegant shape. The image in the center is the part of the Friendship Bell in the garden. The 1,500 pound bell symbolizes the bonds of friendship between the University of Alberta and the university founded by Dr. Kurimoto, Nagoya Shoka Diagaku. The floral plate is where the hammer strikes the bell. The photo on the right is the wooden hammer suspended on chains which makes ringing the bell quite easy.
A great place to visit and they host several photographer's drop-in mornings during the summer. Check out their website for more details. |
